The Art of UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves™

I don't think we could be more excited to announce our newest book in our newest series. The Art of UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves is the first book in our Art of the Game series, and what a way to start the series. The overwhelming choice for Game of the Year from 33 different outlets, Naughty Dog's instant classic on the PlayStation® 3 has set a new standard for games in visuals, story, performance and action.

Working directly with the Naughty Dog creative team to sift through the mountain of art used to create UNCHARTED 2, The Art of UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves provides an amazing snapshot of the creation of the game. The book is Ballistic Publishing’s biggest book at 272 pages and reveals hundreds of pieces of unseen art not available outside of the Naughty Dog team.

The book starts with the concept art for both characters and environments, showing all of the main characters and levels in over 200 pages. Moving beyond a standard concept art book, we also feature the work of the character modeling team, the production art team, the motion-capture and cinematics team, and finally the effects team. Combined, all these chapters show how the entire team contribute to the final game.

EXPOSÉ 8 - Call for Entries

Call For Entries - Ballistic Publishing is now calling on artists to submit digital images for consideration in EXPOSÉ 8. Images can be created in any 3D or digital illustration application. Photoshop and digitally manipulated photography is also welcome. We are interested in digitally-created fine art, whether it be 2D or 3D, for commercial use, or personal satisfaction.

There is no cost or limit to enter work for inclusion in EXPOSÉ 8. As with all Ballistic Publishing showcase publications, artists with work published in EXPOSÉ 8 will receive a complementary copy of the book and will enjoy worldwide exposure in the premier collection of digitally-created artwork to ever be published.

Serge Birault a.k.a. PapaNinja at CGSociety

Another one of my favorite artists over at CG Society. View his CG Society portfolio here.

"Another picture wich was very influenced by Hajime Sorayama's techniques. I tried some new tones for testing. I used some Scarlett Johansson ref for the face, I'll post it later. There will be some details on my website; it's a very big picture so I can do good close-up. Done with Photoshop."

Once In The Woods, Andrei Pervukhin (2D)

I love how this piece captures the feeling of winter and the whimsy in all of the characters. A very well done piece of artwork. You can view the original post here. Andrei's CG Society portfolio can also be viewed here.

B-Movie Contest Entry Progress

Ok... I have been mulling over this idea of a movie title for a while and I finally have an outlet to creatively express it: The B-Movie Poster Challenge over at CGSociety. I am moving much slower than I would like to be, but that is my own fault. I seem to hide behind the "creative rut" wall, but in reality my lack of inspiration or motivation is due to the little voice in my head telling me that I don't have the ability to make my vision come to fruition. I realize that typing of thinking is crippling to my creativity, but it happens every time I sit down to draw. Anyway, hopefully I will finish it in time for the deadline.

B-Movie CG Challenge

CGSociety Challenge XXV - B-Movie
A creative challenge to bring life back into or create a classic B-Movie
17 January 2010 - 19 April 2010

View details here.

Since the dawn of movies there was always a creepier, scarier, and unintentionally funnier cousin to the big budget blockbusters... the B-Grade Movie.

Cinema screens around the world flickered with startling images of wolfmen, zombies, nuclear-mutated monsters, and bug-eyed aliens with a penchant for probing. The 25th CGChallenge: "Attack of the 50ft CGChallenge" asks you, the artist, to bring these gems back to life, or create your own in their spirit, via a still image, video, or, for the first time, audio.

Chloe Sullivan of Smallville

The line drawing was done by Dominic Marco and the coloring was done by me. Took about 5 hours total in Photoshop using a Wacom tablet. Not for a commission or anything, just practice. Comments and Crits welcome!
